Best viewed on Black Flowers bloom along the coast in La Jolla CA. The hillside I am perched on was covered in blooming flowers ranging from a deep pink purple to bright white. Finding a way to get to the top of them without trampling them was a tad painful. Instead of stomping through them I climbed up and around them, through thick thorn bushes. By the time I got to this spot I was scraped and bloody. I guess hiking through thorns in shorts and T-shirt and flip flops wasnt the best idea. A few things about this image, in order for it have the impact I wanted I actually cropped it down so that people viewing in thumbnail size would be able to take in the speck that is a human being in the corner. I also flipped the canvas, the person was originally in the lower left corner to begin but since 500px obscures the lower left corner with a watermarked title and photographer name, again in order to give the viewer the chance to see the human I flipped the canvas so the person is now in the lower right corner of the image. If I was going to print this however, I would go back to the original crop that shows much more ocean, giving greater visual appearance of how tiny one human is against the backdrop of the ocean, and I would print it very large and hang on a wall. Please find more information HERE *definitely view on black and hit M for full size* Rialto Beach on the coast of washington has some of my favorite sea stacks anywhere. Their dramatic presence, and orientation suggestive of fangs impresses me like few other sea stacks have. This is a classic composition from here, but I just had to indulge myself when I visited last year with Howard Snyder who so graciously let me trash his VW suv, as we drove all over the washington coast and then on down to the columbia river gorge. Fun trip! We didn't get much for light this afternoon, but the stormy skies had some interesting things going on. You can see another shot from this afternoon further back in my portolio. I had captured some nice lines from the waves, and after waiting around for awhile, this hole in the clouds started opening up and a small sliver of really contrasting pink streaked across the horizon. Please find more information HERE It's interesting to me how a story can unfold in a chaotic mess of branches and leaves. We all see things differently, but you know what I see here? I see this one little, skinny, unassuming branch, doing it's hardest to reach out and get as much sunlight as it can on it's two little leaves so it can grown big and strong like the rest its fellow branches. The rest of the clan gather around, young and old, to watch the little guy go. Maybe they are surprised at the unexpected performance this little runt of a branch was able to pull off, as it arcs up, pridefully positioning itself in a stance of accomplishment, chest out, head high, soaking in all that sun on it's face with figurative eyes closed in pleasure. Do you see it? The charm... the character? Or do you just see a bunch or leaves composed in a kinda sorta organized way around a setting sun... with this one weird branch getting in the way and cutting through the horizon, breaking a 'rule'? Questions I asked myself, and that were asked of me when trying to decide if I like this shot or not. I like it. Yeah, it's nothing ground breaking, but it does tell that story to me, and it also represents a great time I had, with my wife, on the island of Kauai. We had the pleasure of staying in a really nice resort just a ways up the beach to the right of this scene, and I took a stroll one evening through these groves of trees right on the shore in Hanalei bay, grabbed this shot, and returned to find my wife waiting for me on the deck, enjoying a cocktail before we headed off to have dinner. Just reliving the evening through my mind makes me want to take a deep breath of relaxation I felt while there, and it's those kinds of moments that make an image special to me.nice wallpaper picture free download via 500px http://ift.tt/1HGuA6u
