Rise by PaulWilsonImagesNZ

I find this to be quite a dramatic image with the effects of the small cloud, the light from the milky way is so strong it is far brighter than them. This is a 20 image stitch (4x5) so the quality is very high. I decided to do a 2:1 crop size to encompass more of the milky way. Hope you enjoy.nice wallpaper picture free download via 500px http://ift.tt/1FP3jAX

Astro Thunder by DanielCheong1

Amazing astrophotography night during my last trip to Reunion Island in the south of the island at Cap Mechant. I was lucky to get a thunderstorm on the horizon just below the Milky Way! NOTE: you will see that the exposure time is 30s. This is a SINGLE exposure, not multiple exposure blending! Then why the sea is like it was shot at a very high shutter speed? Because during the 30s it was pitch dark, and the whole scene was lit for a fraction of second by a huge strike of lightning (the white cloud). Moon Shrine by MAPhoto

Using the rising moon, a tiny illuminated crescent just 2 days after it was new, I rendered this 150-degree perspective of all-natural rock formations in the sand. I don't generally get into Milky Way shots because the lighting, color and atmosphere doesn't change much during the time it is visible, and therefore gets old quickly. There are small windows, however, where you can capture something much more interesting with the natural light, but they are not always easy to capture due to the darkness involved and don't look like what we would see with our eye. In fact, it comes four years after I first attempted this stitched, focus-stacked perspective of the light at the time that I am posting this now. It is important to view this one at the right light levels and on black. Thanks!nice wallpaper picture free download via 500px http://ift.tt/196IHGP

River Crossing by markg

This image is one of those unexpected and unplanned shots which I happened to stumble across as I headed back to my car after a session of photographing the night sky. The Milky Way is soaring high above the landscape, but reflects beautifully into the river below, giving the image a very surreal feeling. For the tech heads - It's a vertical pano made up of 6 shots. Each shot is a single exposure and photographed with a Canon 6d, Canon EF 14mm f/2.8 at 30 second shutter at f/2.8, ISO 6400, and stitched together in Autopano Giga. And for the record - that reflection in the river is real. This image is another one that looks great on the smart photo as a wallpaper, so I thought why not...I'll let you guys download it for free from here. Nile, Northern Tasmania (Australia) It is almost that time of the year here again in Tasmania where the night sky becomes a joy to not only witness but to photograph. I love being able to go out at night chasing the Aurora Australis (Southern Lights)......but when that fails to come to fruition, have the beautiful Milky Way to photograph! A 2 year old image, yet still one of my favourites as this tree is ever so grand out the back of Launceston!nice wallpaper picture free download via 500px http://ift.tt/1wE7E12

Tree House by ScottMcCook

**Best viewed on Black guys :)** Hey Guys :) A shot from a trip out to Toodyay last weekend to capture the Milky Way over some of the old abandoned houses located there. It was a tricky location to shoot but we were helped by a very soft light coming from the town behind us that did help with illuminating the house and tree. I really wanted the composition as tricky as it was just so I could call this shot the Tree House ;) hope you enjoy | Nikon D810 | Nikon 14-24mm @ 16mm | 10 Frames | ISO 3200 | Exp 20 secondsnice wallpaper picture free download via 500px http://ift.tt/1wek0Ng

The historic Almer Hut on a rocky outcrop overlooking the neve of Franz Josef Glacier high in the Southern Alps under a clear night sky. Where do I even begin?! This photo was made possible by an extremely spur of the moment decision to hike out from Mount Brown Hut a day early and drive down to Franz Josef Glacier. I had absolutely no plan upon arrival but went because staying in one of the huts near the glacier was at the top of my goal list for my time in New Zealand. Worried that I might not have a chance to revisit the glaciers, I decided to do everything that I could to accomplish this goal. However, I found that I couldn't do much. Aside from a private charter helicopter flight or a technical climb up the glacier, it looked as though I had no option of staying even remotely close to where I wanted. Seriously disheartened, I decided to walk into one of the helicopter offices across the street to confirm that there was in fact no other option. Long story short I found an opportunity to fly up to the Almer Hut for the night as they were flying in to pick up a heli-hiking group anyway. I was joined by Trevor whose great company and enthusiasm for photography made for plenty of fun conversations while shooting hundreds of images for a timelapse well into the night. I hadn't spent this much time stargazing in months and it was incredibly rewarding to photograph the night sky again. And what a place to do this! Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve is recognized for its limited light pollution and the grand Aoraki Mount Cook and Westland Tai Poutini National Parks provide the most impressive alpine landscapes in New Zealand. Spending the night under this brilliant sky was nothing short of the most magical experience I've had so far in New Zealand!nice wallpaper picture free download via 500px http://ift.tt/1v5eCRp
